Individual Freedom versus Beloved Community

speaker: Rev. Brian Ferguson | Unitarian Universalism has a strong tradition of religious freedom and diversity of thought. We put a strong emphasis on an individual’s experience and use of personal conscience in our spiritual search. This is positive in many ways and has created a strong sense of individual spiritual identity. We are also a Covenantal Community where we make promises about how we wish to be in relationship with one another. This can create profound tensions when one person’s opinion causes harm to another person. This worship service will explore how our Covenant for Beloved Community may or may not help with the struggle between individual freedom and healthy community.
