Strange Fruit is the title of one of the most famous songs of the 20th Century and made famous by the singer Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. The subject matter of the song describes one of the most gruesome and brutal parts of American History: the public lynching of African Americans. On this weekend when we honor the great African American Civil Rights Leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., let us remember the grotesque evil of racism which is both part of our complex history and our current culture.
