Embracing Darkness, Welcoming the Light
We are in the time of the Winter Solstice, a dark time for us in the Northern Hemisphere in the Earth’s great dance around the sun. It is a time of extremes of darkness and light.
. . .Do not be afraid of the darkness, for in the depth of that very darkness comes a first glimpse of our own light,. . . (Stephanie Noble)
Come explore what you want to release to fully enter the darkness, what is stirring in you to hold for this next quarter of the sun’s journey, and what is drawing you into the light.
Our opening and closing music during the month of December are Go Tell it on the Mountain, Fannie Lou Hamer’s Civil Rights anthem version as made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary and Someday at Christmas by Stevie Wonder.
Religious Education Classes and Nursery: Children and youth of any age are welcome in our services. Those in kindergarten through 12th grade will NOT be meeting in their classes and are invited to participate in this intergenerational worship service. The nursery is available for babies and children from 6 weeks to 5 years old during the entire service period.
Drum Circle Following the Service
Following the service (about 1:15pm), Laura Jo will lead an hour-long drum circle in the courtyard or the sanctuary to celebrate this time in the earth’s turning, the winter solstice. This percussive activity fosters spiritual connection and collective energy through sound and vibration. We will have some rhythm makers present and invite you to bring some to church with you - drums, rattles, shakers, tambourines, rain sticks, . . . your body.
