The Platinum Rule
As we continue with our July and August summer of congregational rest, this month, our services reflect on the themes of caring and sharing.
Versions of the golden rule (Treat others as you want to be treated) have been starting points in many sacred texts and spiritual sources for inspiring our collective caring and sharing for others. But what if we went further? What if we treated others as they wanted to be treated? And what if we paused to ask ourselves? “How do I want to be treated?”
This Sunday, we’ll reflect on “The Platinum Rule” a short story by Aisha Hauser, and ask ourselves: What does care look and feel like, especially in our diverse, intersectional, beloved community? And we’ll reflect on and begin to express to each other the kind of caring we want and need.
Children and youth in grades pre-k through 12th will be meeting in person in their classes after being present in the sanctuary for the first part of the service. The nursery is available for babies and children from 6 weeks to 5 years old during the entire service period. You may choose either option for your child if they are 5 years old.
