“Higher Love” Drag Church: a celebration of Queer Joy!

For the month of June, we are focusing on celebrating the Joy of Community, today specifically queer joy! We celebrate a kickoff to Pride month with a very special service featuring our friends from Extragrams, a mobile drag queen telegram and entertainment service! In our work towards equality and social justice, we tend to focus heavily on the struggles and adversity of marginalized groups, but not the joy they bring to themselves, to each other, and to those around them through just existing and thriving. Today we look at the joy of community, the protection it brings, the healing it brings, and the higher love that is necessary to overcome personal differences and to build and strengthen joyous community bonds. Please join us for this family friendly service for all ages and potluck lunch afterwards in the Community Room, followed by the annual congregational meeting. (No Children and Youth Religious Education (CYRE) classes today. Everyone will remain together in the sanctuary.) (Etiquette Note: Guests tipping or “spraying” an honoree with cash, is a common practice in many cultures, including drag culture. Attendees of this service are welcome to respectfully gift the artists dollar bills as an expression of gratitude or love for both the performers and their performance. To participate in this gesture of love and joy of community, consider bringing a couple of $1 bills to gift, or to pick up a set of “play money” from the Wildflower Welcome Table in the foyer when you arrive.)
