A Sunday at Wildflower
A typical Sunday for a Religious Education teacher at Wildflower begins with a quick check of emails and the lesson plan before arriving at the South Austin church by 11:30 AM. Once on-site, the teacher greets families in the foyer and guides any newcomers toward the QR code for registration. At 11:45 AM, they take their place in the front pew for the start of the service, staying through opening words, a chalice lighting, and the Time for All Ages story. After the congregation sings the children out, the teacher gathers the group—typically a small, multi-age group of three to five—around the big tree in the courtyard to lead the welcoming song, “Come Sing a Song with Me,” before transitioning to the Community Room. Class begins with a check-in where everyone says their names, pronouns, and a “Rose, Bud, and Thorn.” The rest of the hour involves reading the day’s story, leading a craft or activity, and supervising free play until pickup. The teacher keeps the attendance binder updated with full names and secures parent signatures at dismissal. At some point later the teacher will record attendance in the Breeze management system. Following the dismissal of children from the class the teacher is welcome to join the congregation for coffee hour. This time can serve as an opportunity to build community with families and members.
